I've now permanently moved my blog over to http://chocolateandvodka.com/ and will no long be updating this version, other than with the occasional summary of new posts. Please do not leave comments here, but instead find the equivalent post on my new site, and comment there instead. Two Shostakovich symphonies it might have been: #5, which is probably his single most recorded work, and #7, which seems to match the "military riff followed by happy tune" description. Of course, the happy tune then goes completely nutso berserk, but there you are, then. It's Shostakovich, after all.
