I've decided to only audioblog for the next week. Gah. We may all live to regret this.

![]() I've now permanently moved my blog over to http://chocolateandvodka.com/ and will no long be updating this version, other than with the occasional summary of new posts. Please do not leave comments here, but instead find the equivalent post on my new site, and comment there instead. Comments left here will not be published, as I'd like to keep things all together on the new installation. Sorry if this is an inconvenience. |

you sound fine... what i'd suggest is to script it. you write before you speak, like a presentation you speak it twice to yourself, then it is a public presentation. of course, you might not go to the public presentation route of course. then you get more of the audioblog thing you have been talking about.

Maybe you could set up a wiki so that those of us can transcribe your thoughts and can add links. Even someone could do that independently, since what you post on your weblog is governed by a Creative Commons license.
Hearing a person's voice is the part of blogging that's missing, and that's why I love people who audioblog. Yes, even your stumbles and your mistakes, because stumbles and mistakes are part of what makes us human. Re: A week of audioblogging

that Google (or any other service) can't index your full text is more a disadvantage than URL speaking.

Anon: Yes, I see your point that scripting it would probably make for a higher quality result, but the point of doing this is that to stop me from typing in my entries (comments are exempt, I've just decided ;-) ). So we'll have to go with the mistakes and screwups version.
Sillygwailo: Yes, this blog and all original audio contents such as my audioblogs are licenced under the Creative Commons, so please feel free to transcribe if you would like to. Maybe post the transcription in the comments? Tim: Yes, I agree, not being able to index the text is another disadvantage, and so is the fact that it seems only half the listeners actually finish the whole message. Maybe that's because my first two were essentially me just bibbling, I am not sure, but it would be frustrating to know that if I had made my main point right at the end, most people would have missed it. Most excellent, real time thinking blogged. For God's sake don't script it, it would lose that which makes the audio different from the typed...which is presumably the point of experimenting like this.
Anyway, made my day, Suw across the ether. It's more "you" mate than the typed words are, more essence, if you know what I mean. See you Friday. Re: A week of audioblogging

Oh man, that accent is so hot. Don't feel awkward, keep it up!

Chris: I think you're right - scripting it would remove the point somewhat. And yes, see you Friday for a full dose of me whittering on.
Anon: Thanks! I think. So, er, no pressure then... ;-) Thanks also to Sillygwailo for the transcription, and to Eric for the audioblog response. :D Re: A week of audioblogging

I did a couple of experimental audio blog posts a week or so ago, but you sounded a lot better than me! I was quite monotone I'm afraid and I basically just read a couple of my posts out, which I can tell you isn't the way to go because it's too long and not free-form enough.
So keep up the audio, I wish other bloggers would do the same every now and then. I myself still think it helps bloggers connect to their readers (despite my failed experiment!), but I may be in the minority on that count. regards, Richard MacManus, www.readwriteweb.com (ps what's with this user registration comments system?) Yeah, I think reading posts out doesn't work, cos it's harder to get the intonation right. I found that out yesterday doing the Welsh post (will audioblog that later). I think it'd be nice if there were more people sprinkling a few audioblogs amongst their normal posts, though. It would be nice to hear a few more voices in the blogosphere.
(Oh, and the user registration for comments is an anti-comment spam tactic, and it works!) Re: A week of audioblogging

I may've sounded a bit brusque about the comments system. I totally understand about the need to combat spam. I dislike registering on peoples weblogs though :-)
